Florian Mercea, age 92, of McKeesport, died November 28, 2023, at home. Born October 28, 1931, in Sarand-Bihor, Romania, he was the son of the late Pavel and Ana (Sotoc) Mercea and the husband of Eileen (Biddle) Brady Mercea.

Florian worked as an Engineer and a College Professor in Romania until retirement. He was a veteran of the Romanian Army. Florian wrote many books and poetry that were published in Romania. He was incredibly proud of his writings on what it was like to be a child during WWII in Romania. Florian loved life and came to the United States in 1997, where he met his beloved wife, Eileen. He was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish and attended St. Angela Merici Church. Florian was a man of many talents. He enjoyed carpentry, reading, writing, and traveling. He truly loved life, and to know him was to love him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Dr. Radu Mercea of Tampa, Florida, Camelia (Edgard Van Hosselberg) Mercea of Spain, Drs. James (Dawn) Brady of Augusta, Georgia; Retired Chaplin David (Francine) Brady of Wonderlake, IL; Dana Brady of Kuwait; grandchildren, Michael, David, Robert, Robin, Melissa, Alex, Doran, and Ryan; many great-grandchildren; brother, Pavel (Victoria) Mercea of Romania.
Along with his parents, Florian was also preceded in death by his brother, Jan Mercea; sister, Florica Mercea; and his loyal pet dog, "Sandie."
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jawoski Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home chapel on December 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery of Dravosburg.
