Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 28, 2024

Hilda Mae Ahlin, 96, of White Oak, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born December 15, 1927 and was the daughter of the late August Birger and Agnes Teresa (Hedquist) Carlson. She moved to Clairton (Wilson) in second grade and graduated from Clairton High School in 1945. She married the late Herbert Ahlin on May 28, 1947, and had a son, David three years later in 1950 on her third wedding anniversary. She will be dearly missed and will finally be reunited with her husband, Herb, and her sisters, Arlene (Tom) Barnes and Elvina (Richard) McCorkle. In addition to her son, she is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

She filled our lives with love and laughter, making all family gatherings memorable. She had a quick wit and creative flair, coming up with the most unique gifts, some homemade or re-purposed garage sale finds. A lady of strong faith she was a long time member of Jenny Lind Methodist Church (later Hope United Methodist). A fondly remembered Sunday School teacher, who also volunteered in the church kitchen for decades making Swedish rye bread and potatis korv for annual holiday sales. Her family looked forward to the rye bread, korv and Aunt Mae's famous Swedish meatballs at all our holiday meals. Friends are welcome Friday, March 1, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak. (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, director. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday March 2, 2024 at 11 am. The Rev. Matt Fricker will be officiating. Private burial will take place at Jefferson Memorial Park.
