Robert Melvin Callahan, age 95 died on March 27, 2020. He was born on May 20, 1924 in New Kensington. He was the son of the late Frank and Edith Ferguson Callahan.

Robert was a Staff Sergeant for the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during WWII. He was stationed on the Admiralty Islands in Papua New Guinea. He fought in the Battle of Mindinao, part of Operation VICTOR V, which was the campaign to liberate the Philippines. He also fought in the Battle of Okinawa, and was later stationed in China where he worked on the return of Japanese prisoners to Japan.

He enjoyed vacationing in Key West, FL, visiting casinos, watching the sports channel with his dogs, sunbathing, and cutting grass on his riding mower.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Moore Callahan, step-children; Nola (John) Barton, and James (Tia)Werner Jr. both of Johnstown, PA. grandchildren; Frank, Scott, Dan, Chrissy, Abbie, Brittany, Jimmy, Matt, Breanna, Justin, Timmy, Robert, Ricky, and Christopher, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Holeva, daughters; Milveen McDoneagh, and Ailyne Olszewski, siblings; Ted, Wes, Bill, Pearl, Doris, Lester, Edward, Melvin and Yvonne.

A memorial service lead by Father James Bump will be announced at a later date.
