Gladys Marie George Keith

Gladys Marie George Keith was born September 27, 1923, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Albert Benjamin and Anna Louise George. Gladys moved to Clairton, Pennsylvania as a young girl. She graduated from high school in Large, Pennsylvania, currently known as Jefferson Hills. Gladys met and was married to Deacon Robert Henry Keith Sr. in 1940. This union produced three children Anna Louise, Robert Henry Jr., and Sandra Marie. Deacon and Deaconess Keith were married for over 47 years until his death in 1988.

Gladys loved people and her life was full of friends and family. Gladys was a remarkably sweet and caring person who gave of herself and her possessions freely, generously, selflessly and without any expectation of return. She was employed by the Jefferson Hills Police Department where she retired as a crossing guard for West Jefferson Hills School District. Before his death, Deacon and Deaconess Keith enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally to visit relatives in places such as the Virgin Islands, California, Texas and Hawaii.

Elijah Jamaal “EZ” Brewer, 25, of Mt. Oliver, died March 5, 2020. He was born to Clinton and Jarmayne Brewer Oct. 29, 1994.

He obtained his GED from Pittsburgh Job Corps September of 2011 soon after getting his GED he attended CCAC to study Music and Business management. He became a certified Fitness Trainer in March 2019.

He enjoyed music, bodybuilding, and nutrition as well as playing basketball, reading, writing, and poetry. He was employed at Roots in Oakland as a Food Service Worker.

Gloria Jean Wright, age 53, of McKeesport, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020.  She was born to Rosemary Wright on July 18, 1966.

Gloria attended McKeesport Area High School, DeVry University where she received her B.S. in Accounting, Keller Graduate School of Business, where she received her M.S. in Human Resources, and Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management.

Gloria recently worked as a claims processor for University Hospital in OH.  Gloria also worked for United Healthcare for 28 years.

Lester Dukes

Lester Dukes, 73, of Duquesne, was born to the late Willie H. and Mary (Peterson) Dukes on April 19, 1946. He departed this life on February 25, 2020, at the VA Hospital Aspinwall in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Willa Mae Bryant, Habeeba Tyree, Sylvester Dukes, Joseph Dukes, and Melvin Dukes.

Lester graduated from Duquesne High School and went on to study at Arizona State University; until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Lester worked at U.S Steel Duquesne Works and the Community Food Bank. He was an avid fisherman; he loved music and hunting. No one can forget man’s best friend because he loved his dogs.

Larry Louis Brown, 61, of Clairton, departed this life on February 12, 2020. He was born on January 4, 1959 to the late Willie H. Williams in Ohio. He was adopted in love by Mrs. Georgette Williams.

Larry graduated from Clairton High School. Shortly after school, he went into the United States Army and served as a Material Specialist. He also received a badge for Rifle Marksman. Larry was a proud Clairtonian!  He was an avid Clairton Bear fan, from the high school team to the Baby Twerps.

Oscar DeWayne Allen, 53, born June 5, 1955 to the late Robeana Casey in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on February 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Shawnta’ Petty and sister Jolanda Casey.

DeWayne attended and graduated from McKeesport  High School. He worked at Westinghouse for over 15 years. Anyone that knew DeWayne would say that he had a special relationship with his grandchildren, they called him “G LOC.”

Vernell J. Stewart, 78, was born April 24, 1941 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William and Xnola West; departed this life peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Austell, Georgia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Stewart, brother, Larry Roy West and grandchild Jayemond Bailey.

Vernell graduated from McKeesport High School. She attended CCAC and later became a certified nursing assistant. She worked at UPMC McKeesport Hospital for 32 years until she retired. She met her husband; the late John Stewart and they were married for over 40 years.

Vernell accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Petra International Ministries until she moved to Georgia. Vernell served in several capacities, she was a member of the Adult Choir and Usher Board. She loved to read. Her favorite pass time was doing word puzzles.

Felisha worked at an after-school program at White Oak Elementary School. She was a mental health counselor until her health failed. She leaves a loving family to cherish her memories; sons, Christopher R., Michael A. and Gabe A. Singleton, all of McKeesport, PA; siblings, Alayna E. Tolbert, Raven, Tawnee, and Lafayette Herriott of McKeesport, PA, Jamaica (Jason) Chavis of Pittsburgh; grandmother, Edna Jones of McKeesport; stepfather Tracy Tolbert; stepmother, Camille Herriott; aunts, uncles, a hosts of cousins and friends.

He attended school at George Washington. Donald worked at USS Irvin Works as a forklift driver for many years. He married Sandra at Zion Baptist Church in McKeesport. To this union. Donald and Sandra lived in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

Donald is survived by his loving spouse Sandra children Mike Young, Ondre Young and Colleen Thomas; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Barbara Ann Lawrence, Debra Young, Renee Davis, Denise Whatley and Phyllis Bryant; brothers; Charles Young and Robert Young.

Marlene Belland Johnson, 74, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center with her loving daughter, Monique by her side. Marlene was born on July 18, 1945 to the late James Belland and Rose Sallie in McKenzie, Alabama. She was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony Darrell Belland, brothers, James "Slim" Belland, Elbert Belland, Claudie Belland and William Sallie, sister, Ethel May Bargainer.

As a young girl Marlene would travel from Detroit to Clairton frequently to spend time with her family.  Marlene attended and graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit Michigan. When Marlene moved back to Pa permanently, she began working in the battery production at US Steel and was employed as a CNA for Jefferson Hills Manor. Marlene married Wallace Johnson in 1990. She was a member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church.

M. Jeanne Dix, 90, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania departed this life peacefully Saturday, February 8, 2020 at UPMC East, Monroeville, PA. She was born July 8, 1929, daughter of the late William and Katherine Hemmons Dix. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie Ann Dix James and Patricia Vincenty; brother, William Dix and beloved nephew, Billy Chris James.

Jeanne lived in McKeesport for the majority of her life. After graduating McKeesport High School, she attended Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina for a short time and went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree at Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio.  While there, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1953 at the historic Zeta Chapter, where she served as the Anti-Basileus.

Lula Mae Russ-Lennon

Lula Mae Russ-Lennon, 95, daughter of the late William Henry and Queen Victoria Shaw Russ was born on May 10, 1924 in Council, North Carolina. She departed this life Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Doshia Drakewood and Lily B. Smith; siblings, Viola Beatty, Rather Larkins, Betsy, Willie, Cephus, Raymond, Chester and Joseph (Buster) Russ.

Lula came to Christ at an early age. She joined Kitchen Branch Church, Council, North Carolina and remained faithful there until she moved to Duquesne, Pennsylvania. There she was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church until she met and was married to  James D. Lennon for 41 years. She later joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

While at Macedonia, she became a long-time member for over 70 years. She was President of the Pastor’s Aid Society, Kizzie Clemens Guild, and Gospel Chorus. She served as den mother for the Cub Scouts Pack 316. She also volunteered for over 20 years at Kane Regional Center in McKeesport, PA. She loved cooking for her family and baking for friends as well. She was noted for her Pineapple Upside Down and German Chocolate Cakes.
