Sara J. (Miller) Haney Zezza, age 87, of Westmoreland City, formerly of Monroeville, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023. She was born August 8, 1935 in McKeesport, a daughter of the late John and Bertha Miller. Sara was a member of the Ardara Evangelical Presbyterian Church and loved crocheting, cross stitching, reading and playing the piano and organ. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 26 years at Forbes Hospital.

She is survived by her children Denise (Edward) Wasielczyk, Frank(Christy) Haney, Charles (Elaine) Haney, Don (Barb) Haney, Bonnie Conway, Becky (Fred) Bright, Heather (Pastor Glenn) Meyers and Lynn (Jeff) Himes; daughter-in-law Susanne Haney; 32 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and sister Lillian (Edward) Seelhorst.

Gwendolyn Gilbert Bitzer DeSarno, 95, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. She was born April 16, 1927, in Philadelphia and was the daughter of the late Dwight McElhinney and the late Gwendolyn (Hunsberger) McElhinney. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. DeSarno who passed away June 15, 1989. Gwendolyn was a member of Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles, and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. She loved gardening, cooking, and helping others. Gwendolyn was a private caregiver until the age of 87.

Born December 2, 1927 in Johnstown, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Mildred (Davis) Sensebaugh and wife of the late Cloyd A. Park Jr. She is survived by children, Charles E. Park Sr. of West Newton, Shirley Diane (Michael) Kolesar of McKeesport, Patrick (Carole) Park of Elizabeth Twp., Gary (Sherry) Park of Elizabeth Twp., Glen Park of New Stanton and Kenneth (Kelly) Park of Rittman, OH; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Hicks of Foot of Ten, PA and Alice Cann of Allentown; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, James Michael Park, and siblings, Wanda Kunes, Shirley Walters, Deloris Mobley, Raymond Sensebaugh and Melvin Sensebaugh. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Virginia "Ginger" A. Flynn, age 83 of Penn Township, formerly of North Huntingdon died February 26, 2023. She was born July 9, 1939 in McKeesport, Pa., a daughter of the late William and Agnes Altmiller. Virginia was a member of St. Barbara's Church, Harrison City. She was a girl scout leader, trail monitor at the Yough River bike trail and a member of the Norwin Band Aides. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Cleveland Price. She was preceded in death by her husband James in 2016, three brothers, Robert Altmiller, William and David Baker. She is survived by her daughter, Marianne Saber (Bruce); two sons, Michael Flynn and James Flynn (Laura); brother, Charles Baker (Cathy); sister-in-law, Cam Baker; 4 grandchildren, Daniel (Becky), Tim , Trevor and Shane Flynn; and great-grandchild, Rory. David C. Messinger, age 90 of North Huntingdon died February 26, 2023 at Riverside Care Center. He was born August 20, 1932 in Mckeesport, Pa., a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Simons Messinger. Prior to his retirement, David was employed as a pipe fitter by Firth Sterling. He was a lifteime member of the White Oak American Legion, VFW, Italian Miners Society and the Guffy Club. Edward David Singer, age 96, of White Oak, died on Friday, February 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh on December 17, 1926 and is the son of the late Joseph Aloysius and Marie McCarthy Singer and the husband of the late Dorothy Singer who died in 2004. Edward served in WW II in the army, was a 50 plus year member of General Smedley D. Butler, Post 701, White Oak American Legion, was the founder and proprietor of Singer Paint and Glass Company in White Oak, on Long Run Road, and still exists at its exact location since 1958. He was a past president of the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce, and he proudly received the Small Businessman of the Year award in 1993. Most of all, Edward loved his family and all of his friends.

Michael A. Opalko, age 67, of West Mifflin, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh. Born in McKeesport on January 14, 1956, he is the son of Albert “Junior” and Patricia (Spanitz) Opalko of North Huntingdon. Michael graduated from Norwin Highschool in 1973, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, National Forensic League, ski club and other various activities. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, who was stationed in Germany, earning his parachutist “jump wings” and participated in the Army’s boxing programs. He was a US Postal worker, known fondly by everyone as “Mike the Mailman.” A long-time learner with time spent at St. Vincent College and Community College of Allegheny County, a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Penn State University, and continuing education certificates from Villanova University. He was a member of Bible Baptist Temple in Clairton, PA. Michael loved socializing, making friends with people from all walks of life. He was an eccentric, free spirit who had a presence as soon as he walked in the room and was happy to share his faith in Christ. Some favorite activities he is remembered by playing guitar, playing chess, swimming, music from the 60’s & 70’s, cooking (especially making his grandmother’s strudel), working on home projects, gardening, reading, and writing. He loved his close and extended family, and if you were a friend, he considered you family. If you were family, he was in your corner, and he was a good guy to have in your corner. He will be deeply missed by many. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Colleen (Pawlak) Opalko; children Jessica (Andrew Pfister) Opalko of Ben Avon Heights, Melissa Opalko of West Mifflin and Amanda (Louis M. Kruszewski) Opalko of Port Vue; grandchildren Nikolas, Madelyn, Laila, Alec, Iris, Christian and Millina. There will be no visitation at this time, but a Memorial Service and Commemoration of his Life will be held at a date to be announced. Stephen Edward Kielnar, age ­­­72, of McKeesport, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on February 6, 1951 and is the son of the late Stanley J. and Helen J. Michalek Kielnar. He received a bachelor’s degree from Point Park University and achieved the dean’s list every semester. He was employed as a Piping Engineer at Total Petroleum in Denver, CO. Before he was diagnosed 35 years ago with multiple sclerosis, he was an avid hiker, fisherman, and tennis player. He enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports teams and was a season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1970s. Stephen was a member at Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church.

He was a retired self-employed electrical engineer and computer programmer and a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Twp. An Air Force veteran, he was a former member of the Masonic lodge and social member of Blaine Hill Fire Hall and local VFWs, and a member of a local ham radio club. He enjoyed golf, was a master fixer and tinkerer of all things, and had some interesting theories about gravity. He loved spending time with his granddaughters and teaching them how to play chess. He had some interesting theories about gravity. Born December 4, 1945 in Uniontown, he was a son of the late Charles and Freda (Edenfield) Hobaugh and husband of the late Tracey D. (Thompson) Hobaugh. He is survived by sons, Benjamin J. (Jennifer Ford) Hobaugh of Monongahela and Jonathan C. (Trisha) Hobaugh of Greensburg; granddaughters, Violet Marie Hobaugh and Evelina Rose Hobaugh; and sister-in-law, Mary Hobaugh-Bitner. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Charles Hobaugh. Friends will be received in the Paul E.
