Catherine Ann Skrtic, 70, of Lawrence, Kan., formerly of McKeesport, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020. She was born in McKeesport on Feb. 8, 1950 and is the daughter of the late Paul G. and Caroline D’Annunzio Skrtic. Catherine graduated from Mon Valley High School in West Mifflin in 1969 and was employed for 20 years at the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, Kan., until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of the Natural Ties student organization at the University of Kansas, a member of the THRIL Horseback Riding Club and a member of St. Eugene Church of St. Mark Parish in Liberty Borough and the former St. Joseph Church in Port Vue.

George "Bunny" William Matthias Jr., 82, of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020.  He was born May 13, 1937 in McKeesport, a son of the late George William and Mary (Uhrin) Matthias.  Prior to his retirement, George was a pipe fitter for Equitable Gas and a veteran of the US Army.  He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 11 Ward Club, Equitable Pensioners Club, North Huntingdon AARP 3221 and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed visiting casino's and was an avid Pittsburgh sports teams fan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William and James Matthias.  He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Vennebush; and numerous nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.  Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon.  A funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. with Fr. John Moineau officiating.  Interment will be private.  shirleyfuneralhome.com.

Clair W. "Buckey" Hays, 95, of Sun City Center, Fl, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020. He was born December 3, 1924 in Greensburg and was the son of the late Clair and Sara (Nicholson) Hays. He was the husband of the late Betty J. (Billick) Hays who passed away February 14, 2006. Clair was a member of the Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, Stephen Bayard Lodge # 526 F & AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Shrine and Consistory-Valley of Pittsburgh, and the Central Vol. Fire Co, where he was a charter member and former fire chief.

George W. Blasko, age 89, of North Huntingdon Township, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020. He was born February 3, 1931 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Andrew and Helen Blasko. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irwin, the Irwin Moose for over 52 years, and the Police Rod & Gun Club in New Alexandra. He worked for over 37 years at Penn State Tool and Die in Irwin before retiring. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing at the camp in Bedford. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Thomas and Andrew Blasko.

Caroline M. Moranelli, 87, of Glassport died Feb. 19, 2020.  She is the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Tavalaro) Moranelli and is survived by her nieces Barbara Moranelli, with whom she resided, and Lisa Moranelli; also nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by sisters Catherine Concel and Minnie Ponzo; brothers Frank Moranelli, Nick "Mutt" Moranelli and Ralph "Rossi" Moranelli and nephew James Ponzo, her longtime caretaker.  Caroline worked at Immels, GC Murphy Company, Pater's Pharmacy and retired from Rite Aid in Glassport; was a graduate from St. Peters High School and was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish.  Friends received Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport  on Sat. from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at which time a funeral mass will be held at Queen of the Rosary with Father Wojcicki.  Inurnment following New St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Golden Heights Person Care, Walden's View Personal Care and especially Heritage Hospice for taking such good care of their aunt.

Stewart, 78, was born April 24, 1941 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William and Xnola West; departed this life peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Austell, Georgia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Stewart, brother, Larry Roy West and grandchild Jayemond Bailey.

Vernell graduated from McKeesport High School. She attended CCAC and later became a certified nursing assistant. She worked at UPMC McKeesport Hospital for 32 years until she retired. She met her husband; the late John Stewart and they were married for over 40 years.

Vernell accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Petra International Ministries until she moved to Georgia. Vernell served in several capacities, she was a member of the Adult Choir and Usher Board. She loved to read. Her favorite pass time was doing word puzzles.

Shirley Mae Cleveland-Montgomery

Shirley Mae Cleveland-Montgomery, 84, died Feb. 14, 2020 in McKeesport. She was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Pittsburgh to Katherine Cleveland (Herrer) and Odell Cleveland. She spent her childhood years growing up on Hosier Street in Homestead as well as on the family farm in Homeville with her brothers Odell & Calvin Cleveland.

She always talked about her family horse “Harry”. Harry was in charge of farm chores as well as giving the children rides around the farm. She also had a pet pig but learned quickly that pigs are not pets. Thanksgiving that year was a sad affair.

Through the years, she resided in several places Chicago, IL., Homewood, PA, East Liberty, PA, but returned to Homestead, PA. She worked several manufacturing jobs while in Chicago before returning to Homestead to help her brother Calvin run the family-owned bar, “Cleveland Grill.”

Virginia graduated from McKeesport High School in 1947 and the McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She was a retired Registered Nurse for UPMC McKeesport for many years and later a private duty nurse. Kocak,82, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020.  He was born May 26, 1937 in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Mary (Sima) Kocak.  Prior to his retirement, Ray was a state bank examiner for the Commonwealth of PA, a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a veteran of the US Army.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth A. (Vargecko) Kocak; granddaughter, Jessica Kocak; and brother, John Kocak Jr.  He is survived by his son, Raymond Kocak (Jana); daughter, Christine L. Gloria Hand-Reichenfeld, 92, of North Versailles, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020. She was born May 21, 1927 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Book) Connolly Gloria, whom many knew as Katie was preceded in death by her first Husband, Alvin L. Hand, who was a fighter pilot in World War, II. She met Al shortly after the War and married him. They were married for 28 years when Al succumbed to heart disease in 1975. She then married Eugene "Gene" Reichenfeld, a noted musician and symphony conductor in the Pittsburgh area. She was married to Gene for 34 years before he passed away in 2016. Mom was a lover of the symphony, classical music and received great joy in reading and going to restaurants. Throughout her life, her primary focus was and always had been her family. Her happiest moments were at family gatherings where she interacted with three generations. She was unique in her ability to interact with her contemporaries as well as her Great Grandchildren. She had the special ability to connect with people right away. Her greatest qualities were her abilities to be compassionate, loving and nurturing of her friends and family. She was also predeceased by her eldest son, Keith, who died in a mountain climbing accident on Mt. Huascaran in South America in 1978.
