Edith Louise (Bartrug) Kennedy, age 75, of Rostraver Twp., passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital. She was a retired nursing assistant at Lawson Nursing Home in Jefferson Hills and a former employee of Sony.
She was a member St. Michael's Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and a former member of the Central Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Born June 5, 1945 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Bartrug and Edith (Connors) Shaler and wife of the late Duane Ellsworth Kennedy. She is survived by sons, Eugene Pritchard of Rostraver Twp. and James Pritchard of Rostraver Twp.; grandson, John Pritchard of Dravosburg; brother, Arthur Bartrug of Carnegie; sisters-in-law, Joyce Bartrug and Brenda Bartrug; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Hugh and Don Bartrug. There will be no viewing. Private family burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. Grace E. (Elesie) Slavick, age 80, of Forward Twp., passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was a retired food service manager for K-Mart in Pleasant Hills, a member of St. Issac Jogues Church in Elrama and a member of the National Slovak Society.
Born February 21, 1940 in Monongahela, she was a daughter of the late William and Laura (Vigliotti) Elesie.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert A. Slavick; daughter, Karen (Kevin Bleil) Slavick of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Ronald (Cindi Patterson) Slavick of Elizabeth Twp.; granddaughter, Julie (Phil) Wallace of Diamond, OH; four great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl DeSantis of Tarpon Springs, FL; also, nieces and nephews.

Janice (Cline) Kirkman Street, age 84, of Elizabeth Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at home. She retired after 12 years of service as the office manager for Nisar Health & Human Services and was a former secretary for 10 years at Sunray Electric in McKeesport. She was a member of Park Baptist Church in Versailles, where she was active with the Christian Girls Sunday School Class, a choir member for more than 40 years, and did home missions. She was president of the American Baptist Missionary Women, member of the Jolly Seniors, and the Central Highlands Gospel Singers for 15 years.

John J. Gogoel Jr., age 78, of Blaine Hill, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Anna Lisa's A Touch of Home Personal Care Home. An Army veteran, he was a retired steelworker for U.S. Steel Irvin Works in West Mifflin. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and a former member of the Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Co. He was a fan of Pittsburgh and all local sports. Born November 15, 1942 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late John J. Gogoel Sr. and the late Anna (Faer) Gogoel. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth G. (the late Thomas) Beeler of Elizabeth Twp. and Gloria M. (Ed) Duval of Liberty Borough; nieces and nephews, Tom, Ron and Chris Beeler, Elaine Taylor, Cathy Berkley, Amy Yurkovich, Eddie Duval, Keith Duval and Dana DeCecco; 16 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces and nephews; also, numerous cousins. Laurel "LJ" Pershing, age 76, of Blaine Hill, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Family Hospice & Palliative Care. She retired after 42 years as a secretary for H.J. Heinz Co. in Pittsburgh and was also a secretary for the G.C. Murphy Co. in McKeesport. Her last job was a school bus driver for the Thomas Jefferson School District.
She was a member of the Goldwing Club Chapter E in Belle Vernon, the Elizabeth Twp. and Clairton Lions Clubs, and the senior centers in Olympia Shopping Center and West Newton. Born September 15, 1944 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Edith (Krah) Hathaway.

John Vincent Paoletti, age 78 of Elizabeth Township passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 in Jefferson Hospital. John “Poe” was born on July 14, 1942 in McKeesport Hospital and grew up in the Wilson area of Clairton. He was the son of the late Leon and Theresa (Azzari) Paoletti. John was a graduate of Clairton High School “Class of 1960”, where he proudly led the Clairton Bears as their standout quarterback. His talents were not limited to the football field, as he also lettered in two additional sports. He went on to attend Dayton University where he continued playing football. After college, John married the “love of his life” Linda. They went on to share a beautiful life together, celebrating 50 years of marriage, and were blessed with three loving daughters and four grandsons whom they adored. John had a long career as a foreman at US Steel-Clairton Works, where he was well liked and respected. John retired after more than 30 years of service. He then began his 2nd career and true calling as #1 grandfather “Pap Pap”.

Maria (Mozzi) Conedera, age 94 of Clairton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27, 2020 in the company of the caregivers at Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant, who loved her dearly. Born April 12, 1926 in Borgonovo Val Tidone, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Primo and Giuseppina Mozzi. Maria moved to the United States in 1950 to be with her beloved husband, the late Riccardo Conedera, who passed away November 13, 2000. She was a proficient seamstress, retiring from J.C. Penney's, and was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. Maria was an avid gardener, and her cooking was legendary. When you visited Maria, you were always welcomed and blessed with a meal fit for a king. She was loved by everyone that crossed her path and will be deeply missed.

After a long battle with cancer, Carol Ruth (Sharpnack) Thompson, age 75, of West Newton passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Ascension St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. She retired as a secretary for GMAC in St. Petersburg, FL and she worked part-time with her late mother at Sandcastle and Kennywood. She enjoyed traveling and sports. Born June 24, 1945 in Teaneck, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Caroline (McLaughlin) Sharpnack. She is survived by her daughter, Nancye (Shaun) Hill of Manchester, TN; grandson, Austin Kistler of Manchester, TN; sister, Peggy (Ron) Mizla of Morgantown, WV; also, many cousins. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Monday, November 30, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Alfred L. Cadena, age 83 of Clairton, passed away at home on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Born October 3, 1937 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Alfred and Emma (Hrvacic) Cadena. A former Pennsylvania National Guardsman and member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish (the former St. Joseph's Church, Clairton), Alfred worked for many years in buildings and facilities department at US Steel - Clairton Works. He had an extreme fondness for cars, whether it be their repair, collection, or even the die-cast models. He had a passion for westerns, classic country music, and old time television, especially Perry Mason and Gunsmoke. Alfred was a handy person who was always available, and happy, to help. But most importantly, his family will remember his as a generous soul who dearly loved his family. Besides his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his sisters Emma (John) Berchok and Lillian (the late Lewis) Martini.
