Fernando J. Brandt, age 101, of McKeesport and formerly of New York, died at home on September 9, 2024. Born April 5, 1923, in Caracas, Venezuela, he was the son of the late Guillermo and Louisa (Medina) Brandt and husband of the late Ida Brandt. Fernando moved to McKeesport 30 years ago from New York and enjoyed bowling in a senior league in White Oak. He was clear-minded until the end and always took care of his health. He is survived by a son, Fernando (Anabella) Brandt; grandchildren, Fernando and Veronica Brandt; a brother, Luis Brandt; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Olga, Guillermo, Beatrice, Adolfo, Nelly, and Irma.

Roger A. "Butch" Spurgeon, Jr., age 62, of McKeesport, died at home on September 9, 2024. Born November 29, 1961, in McKeesport, he was the son of Roger Spurgeon, Sr. and the late Virginia (Thayer) Spurgeon and husband of Heidi (Watts) Spurgeon. Roger will be remembered for his love of camp at Deep Creek, where he spent many joyful moments, especially after retirement, enjoying boating on the lake, relaxing by a fire, and playing cards with his family, particularly enjoying spirited games of 500 and Gin. He was also a lifelong Steelers fan, a member of the 11th Ward Club, and a John Wayne fan. Roger's laid-back personality and his penchant for having fun endeared him to those around him, leaving cherished memories that will forever be held dear by his family and friends. His presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Derrick will be deeply missed and remembered by his beautiful smile, amazing hugs, generous and loving spirit. He loved his family and friends and was not afraid to show that love. Derrick also loved his French Bulldog, Nala, and Simba (the family cat), and spoiled them rotten. Derrick's family came first, and the many friends he called family also came first. Florence M. Shively, age 96, of White Oak, formerly of Liberty Borough, died August 25, 2024, at Riverside Care Center. Born May 18, 1928, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Bales and Flora (McCracken) Marks and the wife of the late Clyde Shively. Florence's life was rich with joy and purpose. Professionally, Florence worked in the banking industry for almost 40 years, for the former Union National Bank. A beloved Church of Life in Christ member, she served as the choir director, and her passion for music shone through her natural soprano voice. She appeared in musical theater as well with the South Allegheny Players and the McKeesport Choraliers. She faithfully supported the McKeesport Tiger football and girls' basketball teams, cheering on the teams with unwavering enthusiasm. In her quieter moments, Florence found solace in her hobbies. She enjoyed spending time on her computer playing solitaire and indulging in a little online shopping. However, it was the memories made while traveling with her late husband, specifically their trips to his 10th Armored Battle of the Bulge reunions, which held a special place in her heart. As a proud Nana, she delighted in watching her grandsons grow and flourish.

A devout Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, John found joy in cheering on his favorite teams during game days.

Park W. "Bill" Tarbell, age 91, died August 17, 2024, at Riverside Care Center of McKeesport. Born July 13, 1933, in Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Park W. and Grace (Jarvis) Tarbell and the husband of the late Mary Jane (Ethridge) Tarbell. Bill retired from the B & O Railroad, where he worked for over 45 years.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving our country for over 40 years. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post 701, the Renzie Seniors, and a former member of Kephart United Methodist Church in McKeesport. Bill enjoyed a monthly wing night with his Navy friends at Gianna Via in Caste Village, duck pin bowling in the Archer League in Glassport, and visiting family in Missouri. He also enjoyed golfing, puzzles, cards, and trips to the casino.
