Louis George Zell, 95, of West Mifflin, formerly of White Oak and North Versailles, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021. He was born August 27, 1926 in McKeesport and was the son of the late George and Freda (Pusch) Zell. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in White Oak, F & AM Youghiogheny and Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh, McKeesport Caravan #4, Old Timers Bowling League, McKeesport Meals on Wheels, Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Past President McKeesport Junto, Past President White Oak Chapter AARP, Past President Mon Yough Branch 332 Letter Carriers, and Past Vice President of Mon Yough Chapter 1855 NARFE. Louis was a Letter Carrier for over 35 years with the McKeesport Post Office and was a US Navy WWII Veteran.

Gregory Edward Cole, 56, died unexpectedly October 25, 2021, due to covid.
He was born at Magee Hospital, on September 21, 1965. He was one of three children born to proud parents Virginia and Fred Cole. "Greg", as he was affectionately called, attended and graduated from Duquesne High School.
Although his siblings considered Greg to be a "mama's boy", because of his deep devotion to and affection for his mother, Greg enlisted in the United States Armed Forces shortly after graduation, where he served for four years. He was proud of his achievement of being an Army Ranger Squad Leader, as well as being a Unit Armorer with Secret Security Clearance. He left the Army with an Honorable Discharge.

Rev. Peter Anthony Alfieri, 95, passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, 2021 in Lantana, FL. He was born March 13, 1926, in East McKeesport, PA, the son of Gennaro and Assunta (Macchione) Alfieri; brother of Angie (Mario) Bortoluzzi, Deborah (late Daniel) Daugherty, James (Jean) Alfieri and the late Victor (Floy) Alfieri. Husband of the late Angeline (Pregano) Alfieri; beloved father of Leah (David) Carmo, Rebekah Anderson, Faith (Joseph) Rossello, and Peter (Elizabeth) Alfieri Jr. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Bethany (Michael) Porter, Hayley (Jeffrey) Sheldon, David Carmo, Joel (Erin) Anderson, Adam Carmo, Rachel, Sarah and Eve Rossello, and Angelina and Peter Alfieri III; great grandchildren Leah and Keaton Porter, and Violet and Willa Sheldon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter whose memory he always cherished.
Peter was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and served overseas during World War II. Upon his return, he pursued higher education at the University of Pittsburgh and Western (Pittsburgh) Theological Seminary eventually earning two Master's degrees. His passion and purpose in life was to serve the Lord and spread the gospel. He began his life’s work at Bethel United Methodist church in Lower Burrell from 1955-1959. From 1959-1974 he served Cresson United Methodist church, until eventually relocating to Vintondale, PA to lead Blacklick United Methodist church, where he remained until his retirement in 1989. Even after his retirement, Peter continued his ministry part time at the Laurel Swamp Union Church in Clymer, PA from 1991-2005. He will be fondly remembered by his many congregants and members of the communities he faithfully served throughout his life.

John W. Arnold, 89 of North Versailles Twp. died Sunday October 24, 2021, peacefully and surrounded by family.
John graduated from St. Thomas Catholic School in Braddock, PA. He later attended Duquesne University, CCAC, and the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a masters of education degree in 1982 while being employed full-time at USS Edgar Thompson Works. He retired from there after 44 years of service. John had a fantastic sense of humor, loved music, reading, continuing education, carpentry and electronics.

Murphy & Co. in Clairton and Ames in Bethel Park, Rita was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church in Clairton and the Clairton Senior Citizens. Hers was a life well lived. Her love, strength, and memories will be greatly missed. She will live on forever in heaven and in our hearts. Besides her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband Robert Williams and her siblings Lois Follador and Lawrence "Dutch" Seidling. Bernard Andrew King Jr., 84, died October 17, 2021. He was born on March 4, 1937 in Edgewater, Ala. to Bernard Sr. and Louise King. He was the second oldest of nine children. Bernard was preceded in death by his siblings Myrtle, Edith, Lillie, John Douglas, Melvin and Bruce. He is survived by siblings Virgil and Jacqueline.
Bernard accepted Christ at a young age and he moved with his family to Welch, West Virginia where he spent most of his childhood doing “Country Boy” things, as he liked to say.
Upon graduating high school, he decided to go into a trade, becoming a journeyman welder for J&L Steel, where he worked for 13 years. He was the first African-American to be enrolled and complete the Journeyman Welder Apprenticeship program. He then took up a career at Chrysler in 1969, where he worked in maintenance as a welder. As an employee for Chrysler for 35 years, he was very active in the union and showed his entrepreneurial nature by starting a small coffee business for the employees.

Alma Balter, loved and adored mother, grandmother, great grandmother, pillar and historian of her family, died Oct. 24 peacefully in her sleep in Culver City, California. She was 104, which is to say, she enjoyed the full ride of life. Her death sparks true sadness, but even more admiration for a life well lived.
Born 5/5/17, as in, 1917, she was most proud of her large family and served as its matriarch.
Alma was the eldest child of Edith Firestone Simon, who played cornet in a ladies’ orchestra in the steel town of McKeesport, Pa., and Abraham Marcus Simon, dean of the city’s legal establishment and president for life of Temple B’nai Israel. She spoke constantly and fondly of her two younger brothers, James Simon, and Henry Simon, of L.A, who predeceased her.

A US Army Veteran of World War II, Dominic worked as an armored car driver for Landmark Security of Large. He was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish - St. Clare of Assisi Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Sons of Italy, all of Clairton. In his spare time, he was a big Steelers Fan, but he was a bigger family man. They will love and miss him terribly. Dominic is survived by his wife of 66 years Josephine (Bonafortuna) Ripepi; his daughters Deborah Ann (Tom) Curry of Kingston, TN and Donna (Ken "Moose") Van Kirk of Clairton; his grandchildren Thomas Michael (Rebecca) Curry and Brian (Carrie) Curry; his great-grandchildren Tony (fiancee' Ashton Martin) Curry, James Curry, Charlie Ann Curry, and Sam Curry; his brother Pat Ripepi of Jefferson Hills; his sister Antoinette Rothacker of Clairton; his sister-in-law Sara Behary of Clairton; and also nieces and nephews.
