Lester Earl Maurer, Jr., 88, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born June 14, 1935 in Greenock and was the son of the late Lester Maurer, Sr., and Gertrude Beatrice (Taylor) Maurer. Lester attended Christy Park United Methodist Church and the Boston United Methodist Church. He loved baseball and playing softball. He was a avid collector of model trains and spent countless hours decorating his platform each Christmas with elaborate towns and landscapes, most of which he crafted by hand. He was well known for his unique costumes (some he won awards for) and Halloween shenanigans to scare his grandkids or anyone who walked past him sitting on a park bench at Walmart or McDonald's. He found a second family as a patron of the Pittsburgh Renaissance festival, and even earned a spot in the royal parade among the cast and crew. He played baseball for Christy Park Methodist and was retired from the Equitable Gas Co.
