He was born March 19, 1959 in New Eagle and was the son of Anita Schmidt Cavanaugh of Elizabeth Township and the late Harry Cavanaugh. He worked for Simonetta's Collision and Car Care Center in McKeesport and was a graduate of Elizabeth-Forward Class of 1977. Dan was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in the garden and spending time with his family.

He was a retired baking supervisor for Braun Baking Co., Pittsburgh and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Irwin. Jerry enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the Allegheny River and loved to fish. He had a great sense of humor and loved his family. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict era. He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Shirley A.
