Donald E. Wheeler, age 62, of Jefferson Hills, passed away on February 17, 2021 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born on July 21, 1958 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Robert Wheeler and Barbara (Davis) Harrington and her husband Ralph who raised him. He worked as a mechanic. Donald is the father of Cpl. Heather Wheeler, U.S.M.C., of Cherry Point, N.C. and Shawn (Shawna) Wheeler of Clairton; brother of Sharon (Dennis Bishop) Denne of Ligonier, Ralph (Kim) Harrington of W. Jefferson Hills and the late Robert Wheeler. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Mary (Smolinsky) Belback, age 101, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away on February 13, 2021, at Walden’s View of North Huntingdon. Born in McKeesport on November 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Wasyl & Anna (Misczycha) Smolinsky.  Mary worked at Christy Park Works during World War II and later in the Accounts Receivable Department as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, McKeesport, where she volunteered as a “pirohi lady.”  Mary, with her late husband, Henry, lovingly enjoyed many family social events. Their travels and vacations left them with many fond memories. Her passion was bingo and casinos were a close second. A lucky lady she was. She was the wife of the late Henry A. Belback for 65 years; sister of late Leona (late Erfan) Shevke, late Olive (late John) Benyak, Genevieve (late Andrew) Yuna of North Versailles, Pearl “Billie” (late Joseph) Rolnik of White Oak, late Stanley Smolnicky, late Michael Smolinsky and late Jean Konias. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jean S. Kmetz, Stan Smolnicky, Lee Stebick, Joanne Wakefield, Maryann Zoscak, Janice Rolnik, Diane Seltzer (her godchild), Mary McDonald and many great nieces and nephews.

Robert J. “Bob” Blake, age 76, of North Versailles, passed away on February 12, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born in McKeesport on August 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Walter and Julia (Kochuba) Blake. He was a senior design draftsman with 36 years service for Vista Metals.  He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church and a member of the Board of Directors at the VFW in Schellsburg. He loved all his friends in Key West, Florida that he called “family.” Bob proudly served his country in the Army. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Jean (Gajdos) Blake; father of Jason (Lesley Berthold) Blake of North Versailles, Justin (Kylene) Blake of Plum Boro, Jared (Christine) Blake of Leigh Acres, FL; grandfather of Andrew Jacob Blake, Katie Jean Blake, Lena Belle McLean, Blake Logan McLean, Lily McLean, Kaitlyn Berthold and Haydn Berthold; brother of the late Paul (surviving spouse Nancy) Blake of Florida and the late Barbara Blake. Raymond J. “Coal Man” Majzer, age 81, of West Mifflin, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport. Born in Glassport on September 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (McCluskey) Majzer. He was a retired truck driver for DeRosa Trucking Co. in Dravosburg, drove truck at the Edgar Thompson Plant and was currently a school bus driver for A.S.K., in Wall, PA. Ray was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church, enjoyed fishing, car cruises, polkas, dancing, eating a good meal and socializing but most of all time spent with his family and grandchildren. He proudly served his country in the Navy. James “Jimbo” Ferencz, age 82, of Penn Hills, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away on February 6, 2021 at Forbes Hospital. Born in Duquesne on January 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ella (Vranesevich) Ferencz. Jimbo was a retired Motor Inspector for U.S. Steel and the Bettis Atomic Plant, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church and was the Vice President of Local #1256. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes and fishing and was the manager of the Flames softball team. He was very strong in his faith, leading bible studies and was a member of the Ephesians prayer group at Holy Name Church where he was also an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a past president of Riverview Homes Association, a West Mifflin Democratic Committeeman and held an annual picnic for Dorothy Mill workers from 1984-2020. He proudly served his country in the Navy. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Audrey (August) Ferencz; father of Robbie Ferencz of St. Petersburg, FL, Gregory (Judy) Ferencz of Penn Hills, Kevin (Amanda) Ferencz of Statesville, NC; grandfather of Jesse Ferencz, Jessica Ferencz, Krystal Ferencz, Jessica Johnson and Jessica (Nick) Thornton; great grandfather of Makayla Mullins, Kenzie Tse, Kalee Thornton, Violet Thornton, Evelyn Thornton and Noah James Ferencz; brother of Richard (Elsie) Ferencz of West Mifflin, Eileen (late Wayne) Grooms of West Mifflin, Joanne (Andy) Cerpani of West Mifflin and late Raymond (late Donna) Moss; many nieces and nephews. Stephanida E. (Spiroff) Saunders, 85, died on January 24, 2021.  She was a resident of the Palms at O’Neil in McKeesport. Born on November 1, 1935, in Duquesne, she is the daughter of the late Cristo and Marie Spiroff. She was the beloved wife for 52 years of James M. Saunders, deceased, and devoted mother of Kurt M. Saunders of Los Angeles and Craig J. Saunders of North Versailles, both of whom survive her. In addition, she is survived by sisters, Dorothy Tiffany, Pandora Churilla, Anastasia Pierce, Elvatoria Higgis, and Mildred Bacco. Her sisters Pauline Zeleznik and Gloria Fuhrer predeceased her. She was formerly employed by the William Kohut Insurance Agency in Homestead. As a longtime member of the Homeville Christian Church in West Mifflin, Stephanida served as a Bible School teacher and youth group leader for many years.

Dennis P. “Denny” Malloy, age 68, of Gibsonia, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born in Carlisle, PA on August 22, 1952, he was the son of Norma J. (Ganczak) Malloy of Duquesne and the late Francis M. “Sonny” Malloy. He was retired from Port Authority where he was head of subway maintenance and was a member of St. Richard Church in Gibsonia. He enjoyed going to his cottage in Pymatuning, enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, talk radio & spending time with the people he loved especially his grandchildren Dawson C. and Brody P. Boyer. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Besides his mother, he is survived by his former wife, Carmen Malloy and was happily together with Meghan Palmer. He was the father of Melanie Marie (Malloy) Boyer of Wexford, Hannah P. Malloy of Wexford and Sean M. Malloy of Lawrenceville; grandfather of Dawson C. and Brody P. Boyer; brother of Paul (Janice K.) Malloy of Munhall, Sharon McCracken of West Mifflin and Patrick A. Malloy of Duquesne. Bytzura, age 96, of West Mifflin, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on January 5, 2021 at Manor Care-Whitehall.  Born in Duquesne on March 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Kosko) Harchar. She retired after 34 years for the Railroad Retirement Board. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name and St. Hedwig Churches, where she served as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors and was a 37-year member of the former Altar and Rosary society. She had a passion for going to the Casinos, getting her hair done, going to Church and most of all, her grandchildren and great children were the love of her life. She was the wife of the late Michael Bytzura (Bytz); mother of Michael S. Dolores M. Moran, age 89, died Saturday morning, January 2, 2021, at Morrison Woods Health Center in Muncie, Indiana. She was born January 13, 1931 in North Braddock, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Vjlacky) Duray, attended St. Michael Catholic School and graduated from Scott High School. She moved to Muncie in 1961 with her husband, Edward J. Moran, to whom she had been married 64 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Women’s Association of the church. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Thomas Moran (wife, Tracie) of Scranton, PA and Ronald Moran (wife, Diane) of Wyomissing, PA; three grandchildren, Kathryn, Claire and Audrey Moran. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Lou Cherry.
