Nira Lorraine Philburn, 66, of  Elizabeth, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. She was born July 12, 1955 in McKeesport and was the daughter to the late Leroy Houser and Irene (Brownfield) Knicely. She was a 1973 graduate of Elizabeth Forward. Nira was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts USA, Boy Scouts and also a member of the Boston Fire Company Lady's Auxiliary. She retired from the Elizabeth Forward School District as a Custodial Supervisor after working there for many years.

Edward Fencik

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Edward Fencik, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 96.

Edward was born on July 5, 1925 in Port Vue, PA to George and Mary (Gavula) Fencik, Slovak immigrants from Austria-Hungary.  He had four brothers and two sisters.  They were a hard-working family.  Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Navy, joining three of his brothers for service in WWII.  He was deployed to Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois, where he requested to go seaborne and was assigned as a pharmacist’s mate to the USS Texas battleship, participating in the invasions at Normandy, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.

After returning from war Edward married on July 11, 1947 his high school sweetheart, Garnett Miller.  Together they happily raised a daughter Cathy, and a son Don.  He became a design draftsman in the engineering department at the U.S. Steel Irvin Works Plant, where he worked until retirement.  His drafting skills, lettering, and penmanship were superb.

Donald W. "Donnie" Crouch, age 75, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Baldwin Health Center. He retired after 30 years as a crew lead at U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works. He was a former member of WACC in Wilson and enjoyed flea markets. Born November 27, 1946 in Washington, he was a son of the late Donald and Mary Katherine (Donnley) Crouch. He is survived by his companion, Margaret “Peggy” Jones of West Elizabeth; sons, Gregory (Jill) Crouch of Clairton and Brian (Dana) Crouch of Glassport; grandchildren, Gregory, Samantha, Anthony, Brianna, Angela and Alexis; great-grandson, Damien; also, cousins. She was the former proprietor of the family business, Meyers Tavern in Elizabeth. She enjoyed dancing, music, and watching wrestling. Born February 26, 1938 in Saxonburg, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ehrmentrout) Danik and wife of the late Boyd C. Meyers. She is survived by daughter, Sonja (Darrell) Burroughs of West Mifflin; son, Joseph Danik of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Paul and Britt Danik, Darrell Burroughs Jr. and Donna James; many great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lavrich of Russellton; also, nieces and nephews. Joseph B. Kubacky, age 81, of North Huntingdon, died May 2, 2022, at AHN Forbes Hospital.  Born April 5, 1941, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Florence (Hinerman) Kubacky.  
Joseph was a steelworker his whole life and retired from US Steel Duquesne Works.  He was a lover of all animals who once went out to buy an air conditioner and came home with a dog.  He also came across a dying bird and fed and cared for it for a year nursing it back to health.  
Joseph is survived by daughters, Colleen (Jerry) Costello and Traci (Ed Fontanese) Kubacky; grandchildren, Kelly Jean Costello, Jessica Callahan, Judy Callahan, Christopher Callahan, Amanda Solar, Angel Solar, Vanessa Kubacky, Felicia Kubacky, and many great-grandchildren; brother, Benjamin Kubacky; nephew, Greg Kubacky.  
In addition to his parents, Joseph was also preceded in death by children, JoAnn Kubacky, Joseph Kubacky, and Kim Kubacky.  
Arrangements were entrusted to Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory.

Ada M. Genito, age 98, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.  Born in Duquesne on December 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James and Esther (Feretti) Ardiana. Ada was retired from A&P as a cashier, was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church and the GFWC Women’s Club of Duquesne, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Duquesne-West Mifflin Boys and Girls Club, and worked at Homestead Works of U.S. Steel during World War II. She is the mother of Joseph (fiancé Dixie A. Cianciotti) Genito of Jeannette; grandmother of Kristen (John) Walker and Shelley (Mark) Eberle; great grandmother of Ethan and Dylan Eberle; and sister of the late Beatrice Bedont. There will be no visitation. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name Church, Duquesne, on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Tony Gargotta, officiating. Kenneth I. Pitchford, age 89, of White Oak, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born in McKeesport on July 26, 1932 and is the son of the late William C. and Gladys I. Monk Pitchford. He worked at USX National Tube for many years. He was a firefighter and chief for the former Mon-Yough Fire Department as well as a former chief for the White Oak Volunteer Fire Company #1. He was the last surviving Charter Member of Post 701 - White Oak American Legion and was the Mon-Yough Fire Defense Council Coordinator during the Famous Department Store fire in downtown McKeesport in 1976. He was a life member of the White Oak American Legion, General Smedley D. Butler, Post 701 and a life member of the Rainbow Volunteer Fire Company. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he was a certified firefighter.

Mary J. Sarti, age 86, of Liberty Borough, died May 3, 2022, at UPMC Forbes Hospital. Born January 25, 1936, in Uniontown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Bryner) Baytos and the wife of the late Armand V. "Herman" Sarti.
Mary dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church. Mary was an avid music lover.
Mary is survived by her son, Joseph (Marilyn) Sarti of Liberty Borough; step-children, Jo Louise (Ken) Sealy of Monessen, Dino (Jane) Sarti of Markelysburg, Kim Sarti of Kennedy Township, Armand (Jackie) Sarti of North Huntingdon, Toni Sarti of Monessen; grandchildren, Anthony (Paige Davis) Sarti and Angelyn (Ronald) Richardson; step-grandchildren, Michael, Dominic and Kristi Sarti; great-grandchildren, Raelyn, Riley, and Ronald Richardson; siblings, Martin (Mary Jane) Baytos of Brunswick, OH and Elizabeth Rose of OH; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also preceded in death by a son, John Baytos and brother, DeWayne Bryner.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.  The funeral service will be on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Entombment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.

Clarence R. (Butch) Blake Jr., 86, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born December 23, 1935, a son of the late Clarence R. and Freeda (Burr) Blake. Prior to his retirement, Butch was an electrician for National Tube Works of USX. He was a "jack-of-all-trades" and mastered them all. He was a champion roller skater and ran the Rainbow Gardens Roller Rink for his parents. Butch was also fond of animals and taking care of them. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Blake; and sister, Natalie (Raymond) Thomas; grand nephews, Robert McDowell and Michael McDowell. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy (Parizek) Blake; nieces, Linda (Robert) McDowell, Lianne (Ginger Fontaine) Parizek, Lori Anne (Todd) Blake Price; grand nephews, Aiden and Grayson Price; sister-in-law, Virginia; special friends, Melissa and Leianna Vaughan; and special thanks to all the dear friends and neighbors who made Butch's life so happy. William S. "Bill" Butler

William S. "Bill" Butler, 91, of Greensburg passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. He was born October 5, 1930 in McKeesport and was the son to the late William Thomas and Margaret (McCulley) Butler. A 1951 graduate of McKeesport Vocational School, he became a certified machinist by trade and worked at Teledyne for 30 years before transferring to Kennametal in Latrobe for 10 years. Bill served in the Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged. He was a long time member of the Holy Trinity Church and after closing, he became a member at St. Patrick's Church. On July 22, 1953 Bill married the love of his life, Marlene T. (Buzek) Butler, and passed away just two months shy of their 69th wedding anniversary. Bill was an avid golfer, and bowler and was a part of many leagues through the years. He was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge #146 and of the 11th Ward Social Club. He was a handyman, always building and "I can fix it" was his answer to anything that needed done.

Jeffrey J. Hoagland, 67, of McKeesport, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. He was born May 28, 1954 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Glenn and Mary Louise (Lundie) Hoagland. He was a US Navy veteran and a proud 1972 graduate of McKeesport High School. Jeffrey graduated from CCAC South in West Mifflin and went on to work in The Coronary Care Unit and later as a Health Care Expeditor for UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debra A. (Gobel) Hoagland, sons, Christopher (Stephanie) Hoagland of Export, Jeremy Hoagland, and Joseph Hoagland both of McKeesport, a granddaughter, sisters, Marcia (Joe) Lust and Joy (Shawn) Bilak, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mark Hoagland and sister, Barbara King.
