Frank L. Szczerba, Sr., age 86, of Elizabeth, died February 18, 2017, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born June 26, 1930, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Aniela (Majkut) Szczerba. Frank was a retired self-employed excavator and in his early years he was owner operator of Mon-Yough Paving Co. He was a member of Corpus Christi Church. Frank enjoyed hunting and Pittsburgh Steelers football. Frank’s true passion was working the fields of his family farm and he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by children, Frank L. (Thoris) Szczerba, Jr. of Belle Vernon, George C. (Barbara) Szczerba of Belle Vernon, Lory (James) Worthington of Belle Vernon, Gary J. (Lisa) Szczerba of Sutersville and Karen (Raymond) Ott of Belle Vernon; step-children, Jake (Deborah) Warren of Mt. Lebanon and Judy Mann of Dublin, VA; 11 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and father, Frank was also preceded in death by his first wife Virginia (Posashtiuk) Szczerba and second wife Dorothy Jean (Kakazys) Szczerba; siblings, Mary Robertson, Anne Szczerba, Stella Husok, Joseph, John and Edward Szczerba. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 10 a.m. Fr. EUGENE N. "GENE" COSTEL age 80, of West Mifflin, on February 16, 2017. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Irene (Ondik) Costel. He was a retired high school math teacher from the Steel Valley School District retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, their Men's Club and volunteered at church fish fry dinners. He was an avid bowler and an avid golfer, and had a hole-in-one at Butler's Golf Course. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and retired from the US Naval Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer Four with 30 years service. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and he was a graduate of California State College. Beloved husband of 53 years to Agnes "Aggie" (Ribar) Costel; father of Gary (Melisa) Costel of Butler and Daniel Costel of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Timmy Costel; brother of Marcella (late Buddy Petruska and late Chuck) Jaskulski of West Mifflin, Patty (Terry) Bernd of Monroeville; also nieces and nephews. Visitation on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the MALOY - SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300, where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Trinity Church at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
